It started with a question nobody could answer.

After a decade in digital marketing and SEO, I thought I understood how people discover brands online. I'd helped companies climb Google rankings, build content strategies, and turn organic search into their most reliable growth channel. Then one afternoon, a client called with a question that changed everything: "Why doesn't ChatGPT mention us when people ask about our category? We're the market leader."

I didn't have an answer. So I started testing. I asked ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude dozens of questions about industries I knew inside out. The results were eye-opening. Brands that dominated Google were often completely absent from AI-generated answers. Meanwhile, smaller competitors with strong thought leadership and well-structured content were being recommended by name. The rules had changed, and almost nobody had noticed.

That gap between traditional search visibility and AI search visibility became an obsession. I spent months mapping how different AI engines source their answers, which signals they prioritize, and why some brands consistently appear while others are invisible. What I found was clear: AI search is not a variant of traditional search. It's a fundamentally different channel with its own logic, and it needs its own set of tools.
